At a meeting with the Minister’s Sarah Jones MP and Michael Shanks MP the NUM National Officials raised the discriminatory decision by the last Government to restrict concessionary fuel allowances (solid fuel and cash-in-lieu) to 90% for employees of UK Coal who finished after 2012 (the UK Coal 2012 cohort).

Following consideration of the case presented to the Ministers by the NUM the Minister agreed to reinstate the 100% and backdate to 1 April 2024 (the start of the current coal year).

This would not have been possible without a Labour Government as the previous Tory Government Minister refused to meet with the NUM to consider our position and evidence.

Those who will be affected by the change will have been notified in writing by the National Concessionary Fuel Office (NCFO).
