At a meeting today in the Council Chamber of the NUM / NUM Yorkshire Area HQ former Mineworkers met with Ed Miliband MP, Stephanie Peacock MP, Dan Jarvis MP and Marie Tidball Labour Party PPC for the Penistone and Stocksbridge Constituency to discuss the pledge in the Labour Party manifesto published on Thursday (13/6/24) in respect of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme (MPS).

There was no ambiguity about the funds in the Investment Reserve Fund being handed over to the Scheme for the MPS Trustees to use to increase pensions should Labour be elected. This will give an immediate increase to pensions while a review of the 50/50 surplus sharing arrangements takes place in respect of any future surpluses.

Ed Miliband MP, Stephanie Peacock MP, Dan Jarvis MP and Marie Tidball Labour Party PPC for the Peniston and Stocksbridge Constituency were thanked on behalf of the NUM by Chris Kitchen for all the work they had done both in public and privately that has resulted in a firm commitment from the Labour Party in their manifesto to right the unfair situation of the MPS Government guarantee.
